GYNECOMASTIA

What is it ?

We call the presence of a bust in men gynecomastia. The reasons may be different: hormonal problems, overweight, taking anabolic steroids, etc.

The glands are larger than normal, causing mental and physical discomfort. There are two main methods used to remove excess tissue: liposuction (link to procedure) and surgical tissue removal. New size and shape improve self-confidence.

Before undertaking such a procedure, Dr. Zayakova will discuss with you absolutely all the questions that concern you. The choice of method for the correction of gynecomastia is also carried out together with the specialist.

An informed consent:
This is a document that describes in detail the procedure, the possible risks and complications of it and anesthesia, financial relationships. You should carefully read what is written. If you have any questions, feel free to ask your plastic surgeon or anesthesiologist.

What is the operation?

The operation is performed under general anesthesia. Its duration is from 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours. The technique that the surgeon chooses depends on:

  •  breast size and shape
  •  the degree of breast size
  •  skin qualities

There are cases in which it is necessary to combine liposuction with removal of the gland. In patients with large breasts, in addition to gland removal, skin removal is also required. Depending on the excess tissue is the incision that is made:

  •  around the areola and vertically to the fold, and in the fold itself under the breast;
  •  around the areola and vertically to the fold under the breast;
  •  only around the areola.

Dr. Zayakova will close your incisions with sutures that are resorbable (the body dissolves them) and will not need to be removed. You wake up with the elastic underwear necessary in the post-operative period. All the necessary medications-antibiotics and painkillers while you are with us will be given intravenously. The pains are not strong.

What to expect after the operation?

Each patient recovers in a different amount of time. For the first 24-72 hours you will feel uncomfortable, you will have a feeling of tightness in your chest due to the swelling. At home, you will take the antibiotic and painkillers orally. You will need to visit the clinic again on the second day of the operation, when you will be examined and bandages will be applied to allow you to bathe. Any postoperative pain, swelling, tension will gradually subside. You will wear the elastic underwear for 30 days. A patient who has undergone such an operation can return to work after 10-15 days if he feels ready for it. Sports, heavy lifting should be postponed for a month. The scars fade gradually over a period of 3 to 12 months, depending on the individual characteristics of your body.

Are there any risks?

All surgical interventions carry risk, and plastic surgery is no exception. Serious complications are not common when the surgery is done by a qualified plastic surgeon.

Possible complications include:
infection, hematoma, seroma, change in nipple sensitivity, delayed healing, persistent pain, unsatisfactory aesthetic result, enlargement of scars, etc.

Revision surgery:
It is performed after a complication or an unsatisfactory aesthetic result. The incisions are made along the old scars. Recovery is faster and easier.
