BREAST LIFT

What is it ?

Breast sagging can be the result of significant weight loss, pregnancy and breastfeeding, age changes. Certain congenital conditions are also associated with breast ptosis—tubular breasts. A breast lift or mastopexyis performed to improve the shape and restore the youthful appearance of the breasts.

What can be achieved with mastopexy?

  • removal of excess skin
  • strengthening the breast supporting tissues
  • youthful looking breasts
  • higher bust
  • tighter chest
  • areola lifting and size reduction

Who is a good candidate for a breast lift?

The best candidates for mastopexy are women whose breasts are:

  • lost volume and good shape
  • flat, elongated, drooping
  • the skin on the breasts and/or areolas is stretched
  • the nipple or areola is positioned downward
  • the nipple and areola are located on or below the inframammary fold
  • breast asymmetry - one is located lower than the other

It is also very important:

  • Be over 18 years old
  • Have a stable weight
  • Be healthy
  • Being motivated for the operation, and not proceeding to it under someone else's influence
  • Have realistic expectations for this surgery

Before undertaking such a procedure Dr. Zayakova will discuss with you absolutely all the questions that concern you. The choice of breast lift method is also done together with the specialist. Women who plan to have children are advised to postpone the operation.

An informed consent This is a document that describes in detail the procedure, the possible risks and complications of it and anesthesia, financial relationships. You should carefully read what is written. If you have any questions, feel free to ask your plastic surgeon or anesthesiologist.

What is the operation?

The operation is performed under general anesthesia. Its duration is from 1 ½ to 3 ½ hours.

There are several incision techniques. The technique the surgeon chooses depends on:

  • breast size and shape
  • the degree of ptosis
  • areola size and position
  • amount of excess skin
  • skin qualities
  • other factors

Depending on the chosen method, the incisions are:

  • around the areola, vertically to the crease and in the crease itself under the breast
  • around the areola and vertically to the crease under the breast
  • only around the areola

Excess skin is removed. If necessary, the size of the areola is reduced. The gland is fixed in a higher position. The areola moves up.

The bust is shaped. There are cases where it is possible to lift and shape the breasts with an implant. In such a casethe implantis placed first (behind the breast or under the muscle) and then the gland is fixed and the excess skin is removed. Your incisions will be closed with absorbable sutures (the body dissolves them) and will not need to be removed. After mastopexy, the breasts appear smaller regardless of the fact that no tissue is removed from them. You wake up with the elastic underwear necessary in the post-operative period. All the necessary medications – antibiotics and painkillers while you are with us are given intravenously. The pains are not strong. A 24-hour stay in a healthcare facility is required.

What to expect after the operation?

Each patient recovers for a different period of time.
For the first 24-72 hours, the patient will feel discomfort, there will be a feeling of tension in the breast, which is due to the swelling. At home, you will take the antibiotic and painkillers orally. You will need to visit the clinic again on the second day of the operation, when you will be examined and bandages will be applied to allow you to bathe. Any postoperative pain, swelling, tension will gradually subside. You will wear the elastic underwear for 30 days. A patient who has undergone such an operation can return to work after 10-15 days if he feels ready for it. Sports, heavy lifting should be postponed for a month. The scars fade gradually over a period of 3 to 12 months, depending on the individual characteristics of your body.

Are there any risks?

All surgical interventions carry risk, and plastic surgery is no exception. Serious complications are not common when the surgery is done by a qualified plastic surgeon. Possible complications include: infection, hematoma, seroma, nipple sensitivity change, delayed healing, persistent pain, unsatisfactory aesthetic result, scar enlargement.

Revision surgery: It is performed after a complication or an unsatisfactory aesthetic result. The incisions are made along the old scars. Recovery is faster and easier.
