SCARS AND NEVI CORRECTIONS

SCARS

There are many variables that affect the severity of a scar, including the size and depth of the wound, blood flow to the area, the thickness and color of the skin, and the direction of the scar. It cannot be completely removed, but surgery can improve the appearance of the scar, making it less obvious. You will discuss the pros and cons of the surgery with Dr. Zayakova to ensure that you fully understand the implications of the treatment she recommends for your particular case. The information below describes the different types of scars.

Keloid Scars

Keloid scars are thick, red and cause itching, discomfort, pain. This is due to the fact that the connective tissue grows beyond the edges of the wound or cut. They are often red or darker in color than the surrounding skin. They are most often observed in the area of the sternum, shoulders, back and are mainly due to the individual characteristics of the body. Treatment is difficult. Often times, after their removal, they can appear again, and their size is larger than the previous one. Therefore, during the consultation, Dr. Zayakova will assess how best to treat the keloid: silicone plaques, creams, cortisone injection, compression or surgical removal.

Hypertrophic scars

Hypertrophic scars are very similar to keloid scars in that they too are thicker, redder, and bulging. Unlike keloids, however, they undergo reversible development and can be operated on with less worry.

What is the operation?

Its duration is about 30 to 40 minutes for small and from 1 to 2 hours for large scars. It is performed under local anesthesia in an outpatient setting or general anesthesia, which requires you to stay at least 2 hours after completion and in the medical facility. The scars are excised and the tissues are sutured with an aesthetic suture. It is possible to have discomfort, slight pain, swelling, bleeding, altered sensitivity, which subside in 10-15 days. You don't need to be absent from work.

What can I expect from the operation?

All surgical interventions carry risk, and plastic surgery is no exception. Serious complications are not common when the surgery is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon. Usually, after such an intervention, patients experience numbness in the area of the nose, reduced to absent sensitivity. This is due to the separation of the skin and mucous membrane from the underlying tissues during the operation. Sensitivity is restored in a few months.

Surgical removal of skin formations (nevi, tumors)

Various skin neoplasms are subject to surgical removal. Most often, these are pigment nevi - moles located in open places on the face and body, with an increased risk of transformation into malignant skin tumors. When small formations are removed, the wound is sutured from the inside and the residual scar has a linear shape. For larger formations, it is often necessary to apply more complex plastic methods. In some cases, it is possible to remove by coagulation. Then a crust forms on the wound, which falls off in about 10 days. The skin is pink and you should apply sunscreen until the color matches the surrounding area.
